Our Tornado Party Weekend

Oklahoma springs are only for the strong. We've had a wild weather weekend. At least one tornado touched down in the town I work in. As the hospital spokesperson, it kept me busy. Luckily there were no major injuries. But there was pretty impressive damage done to trees, buildings, power lines, etc. Overnight last night, the town of Woodward in the NW part of the state wasn't so lucky. At least five people were killed, including two young children. Terrible and tragic. Night time tornadoes are so scary... the warnings aren't as clear as they are in the day time. In Woodward the tornado took down the sirens so people there didn't have that as a warning signal to take cover.

The weather experts started warning the state that this weekend was going to be concerning weather wise. So our family decided to play it safe and spend the weekend at my sister's house. Here's why...

Kim and John have a storm cellar so our crew camped out there Friday through Sunday morning. We had a great time. We played cards, cooked and baked, watched endless weather coverage and enjoyed each others company. We only had to get in the cellar once, Friday afternoon.

It officially freaked the kids out. The sirens were going off, it was dark and there was about 3" of water in the cellar. So by Saturday afternoon the kids were ready to enjoy a little not scary outside time. So we went kite flying.

Glad we dodged a bullet this round. My heart goes out to those that affected by the storms.
