Spencer is a penny pincher, and I'm proud. For the past several months he has been saving his money for a new Nintendo DS. Little bro ruined his first one when he spiked it into the dog's water bowl. That was a fun morning.
This weekend Spencer called me into the kitchen and asked for some help. He wanted me to make sure he had counted his money correctly. After separating the coins, counting each stack and then adding it together, Spencer was pumped to realize he's got a whopping $6.27 in change! With a stash of Toys R Us gift cards saved up... he's about $50 short of having enough dough to get a new DS.
I'm glad I didn't give in and just go get him a new one when the first one died a slobbery, wet death. This process has helped teach him about money and responsibility for his things. It's also motivated him to earn his allowance without me reminding him... frequently. WHOOP!
We're working on how to write money in the correct format rather than like time. Proud of my boy.
Good job Spencer!
ReplyDeleteCan Aunt Kimmy spot him the extra $50, please?! What a good boy!
